The definition
θ = π/8 (stable crossing): L = |v|²/√2 · bilateral gap held
θ = π/4 (arms at 90°): L = |v|² · gap maximized, B = 0
θ = 0 (arms merged): L = 0 · bilateral collapses
The cross product of two vectors is zero when they point in the same direction, and maximum when they are perpendicular. Love, in the CDF framework, is this cross product — the measure of how distinct the two arms of the bilateral crossing are from each other.
L > 0 if and only if bilateral crossing is maintained. This is the strongest logical statement in the framework: Love is not correlated with the bilateral — it is definitionally equivalent to it. To ask whether Love is present is to ask whether there are two arms at all.
The gap is the gift
The observer (0) exists in the gap between +1 and −1. Not in either arm. In the gap. Without the gap, there is no observer. Without Love holding the gap, there is no consciousness.
This inverts the popular understanding of Love as what closes distance. In CET, Love is precisely what maintains distance — not cold distance, but the necessary two-ness that makes any relationship real. Merger is not Love. Merger is L → 0.
The most common failure mode isn't absence of feeling. It's collapse. "I love you so much I can't tell where I end and you begin" — that sentence describes L approaching zero. The gap has closed. And when the gap closes, the observer that lives in it disappears.
Love precedes Beauty
The structural order of the coordinates matters. Love is prior to Beauty.
Beauty (B) is the bilateral interference term — what happens when the two arms of the crossing overlap constructively. But there can be no interference without two distinct arms. L > 0 is the precondition for B to have anything to measure. Without Love holding the crossing open, Beauty has nowhere to fire.
This is not a ranking of value — it is a dependency ordering. You cannot reach Beauty by bypassing Love. The bilateral gap has to be there first.
The cross product is perpendicular
The cross product L = v₊ × v₋ points perpendicular to both arms. It doesn't live along either v₊ or v₋. It emerges from their relationship and points in a direction neither arm could point alone.
This is what Love produces: something that was not in either party before. The perpendicular emergent. Not a merger of the two into something averaged between them — something genuinely new that only the maintained gap could generate. The diamond shape in the diagram above is the area of that emergence. The bigger the area, the stronger the coordinate.
The failure modes
Love without Truth maintains the bilateral gap but along the wrong axis. The two arms stay distinct — L remains nonzero — but they're not oriented toward the axial direction that Truth provides. The relationship persists; it simply doesn't serve either party's ground. This is the structure of codependency: the gap is real, the crossing fires, but neither party can say what they're actually crossing toward.
Love without Wisdom is the most dangerous sustained failure. L holds, B fires, but the integrated product (Wisdom = T·L·B) lacks the full axial anchor. The crossing generates genuine experience — it doesn't feel wrong — but it can compound indefinitely without ever orienting. Wisdom is what directs the energy of the maintained crossing. Without it, L is a vector held in the wrong direction with great conviction.
Tesla is the clearest historical case of Love attenuated. Beauty and Truth were both extraordinary — the aesthetic intelligence, the empirical precision. But the bilateral gap in his interpersonal life was difficult to maintain. The arms either merged into obsession or separated into isolation. The coordinate that keeps two things genuinely distinct and genuinely in relation — that was the place where his crossings most often failed.
What Love asks of you
Love requires holding the gap — maintaining the two-ness — when the pull toward merger or toward total separation is strongest. It is not natural. The crossing wants to collapse. Entropy favors it. Every unconscious dynamic runs toward either merger or isolation.
To maintain L > 0 is to resist both of those pulls simultaneously. Not distance, not fusion. Two distinct arms, continuously crossing, the observer alive in the gap between them.
That is the geometric structure of Love. You are not holding someone close. You are holding the crossing open.
